Nature Morte
Inspired by a day spent among the Gemäldegalerie’s collection of still lifes and landscape, this work-in-progress tests the relationship between photography and painting.
Domestic objects, canvas, eggshells and flowers are pushed into a chiaroscuro world of light and shadow, depths of darkness and points of reflective white. The work moves through detail, applying a painter’s observation to photography through an incomplete catalogue of still life forms.
The outcome seeks to emulate a pre-photographic attention, the forensic observation of form, texture and light.
