Background
The Photo School (TPS) was founded in 2025 by photographic artist Gideon Vass to support artists during the early stages of their career — a time when many lose momentum, direction, and connection to their practice as they struggle to adapt to the reality of sustaining a practice long-term.
“Whether a recent graduate or self-taught artist, the first few years are often overwhelming, uncertain, and isolating. Limited time, support, resources, and energy, coupled with high expectations, can leave artists feeling deflated and disheartened, causing many to drift away from their practice. The artists who continue are not necessarily those with the greatest artistic potential, but those who find ways to work around these limitations, let go of rigid ideals, and integrate their practice into their lives.
TPS exists to help artists lay the foundations for a successful long-term practice, identify and navigate the challenges, and develop as contemporary practitioners.”
